This hidden gem stands out among the best restaurants in Coker for its simplicity, flavor, and genuine local charm.
The Coker Market isn’t your typical restaurant—it’s a hybrid of a country store and a casual diner, offering a menu rooted in classic Southern cuisine. Prices are incredibly reasonable, with most dishes ranging from $6 to $12, making it one of the most budget-friendly local dining experiences in the area.
The menu features a rotating selection of daily specials alongside staple favorites. Among the must-try items, the Fried Catfish Plate is a standout—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and served with classic sides like hushpuppies and coleslaw. The BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich is another crowd favorite, packed with smoky, slow-cooked meat and topped with tangy sauce that brings everything together. For breakfast lovers, the Biscuits and Gravy deliver a rich, comforting start to the day, with fluffy biscuits smothered in savory sausage gravy.
Customer reviews consistently highlight the quality and authenticity. One regular shared, “The Coker Market in Coker feels like home—great food, friendly faces, and unbeatable prices.” Another reviewer noted, “Best catfish I’ve had in years. Simple, fresh, and cooked just right.”

“ This place was well kept and comfortable. It was more expensive than fast food but not unaffordable. Food was delicious. The sandwiches felt like more food than the smoked chicken for less money. However, the flavor was impeccable (get it? Chicken? ImPECKable?) Anyway. We will be back. ”
“ The Coker Market is your place to go for homemade everything! Menu has variety and uniqueness. Customer service is excellent, especially in the food industry that has forgotten its importance. Country store front and very inviting inside. Dine in or carry out. ”
“ The Coker Market impressively blends a curated selection of specialty groceries, a thoughtful menu with just the right amount of variety, and genuine small town diner atmosphere. The chicken breast plate came with two generously-portioned sides at an incredible value. The chicken was well marinated, cooked to perfection, and served with Alabama white sauce. Service was friendly and the food came out quick, especially considering the effort to make each dish memorable. ”
“ I had the Reuben paired with the southern style potato salad. it was made quickly and put together nicely. i enjoyed every bit of my visit and would recommend it to anyone who likes a nice slow cooked pulled pork. the owner was very nice and hospitable! i live in the city center of tuscaloosa, but the experience and taste was well worth the drive to coker. 10s across the board! ”
“ This small, local restaurant is a hidden gem! Every time I dine here, I'm blown away by the incredible homemade food. It's always a tough choice, but the Philly cheese steak and the catfish are absolute standouts for me. The quality and flavor are consistently top-notch. Highly recommend giving them a try! ”
“ It’s a little bit off the beaten path, but not so much that you can’t find it. Very clean inside and friendly staff. I was pleasantly surprised by the market aspect. Sauces, spices, jams, jellies and even glass bottled Pepsi products to snoop around through while waiting on your food. And Boars Head meat by the pound is always a plus. I Got the pulled pork Reuben because Reubens are my favorite and while I was a little hesitant at first, because pulled pork is not on your classic Reuben, my hesitation was soon waylaid by the taste of the sandwich. Very tender meat with excellent kraut and all were perfectly complimented with the market sauce. I got the fries, which rivaled Avenue Pubs, and an order of slaw that had just the right amount of tang and crunch. At almost 300 pounds I can put away some food but I had a hard time finishing this one. It was plenty for anyone with a normal appetite. While it’s a sit down or carry out, don’t expect to be waited on hand and foot. They will bring you your food and help with anything you need, but it’s pretty much like a fast food joint after that and that’s ok. $21 including a $3 tip, for bringing my food to me and because it’s a local place, and I was full as a tick and ready for some Modelos! ”
“ Ordered a slab of ribs & the fried chicken nacho & everything was absolutely delicious!!! ”
“ Some of if not the best catfish I've had. Sides are phenomenal. The pickles are my favorite (bought a whole pint today ) Service is wonderful. They make you feel like family. It's a place you want to keep coming back to. It's worth the drive, but if you're ever nearby you need to make a stop in. ”
